Reference: Matthew
14:22-33
Golden Verse:
"Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid."
Matthew 14:27
Lesson Goals:
-
Show the Divinity of Jesus Christ and His power over nature.
-
Show the students the way to salvation through troubles with the help of
God.
Lesson Notes:
-
This miracle is a good lesson about our salvation.
-
Jesus asked His disciples to go to the sea and face the storm (the troubles
and trials of the world).
-
The ship that carried them is the cross.
-
Their goal was to arrive to the port on the other side (the Heavenly Kingdom).
-
We cannot get to the Heavenly Kingdom without Jesus Christ.
-
We should notice:
-
God's Goodness: when the disciples needed Him, He went to them.
-
His power: He came walking on the sea.
-
He encourages us not to be afraid as long as He is near us.
-
Notice Peter's courage, faith and affection towards Christ. Faith
kept him from sinking. He started to sink when his fear overcame
his faith. When faith is weak, we need strong prayers ("Lord save
me").
-
This miracle confirmed the disciples' faith in Christ. They knew
before that He is the Son of God, but now they are more certain.
