Golden Verse:

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."  Matthew 6:24

"Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me."  Mark 10:21

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."  Mark 10:25

Lesson Notes:

1. How can we inherit eternal life?
• Keep the Commandments and do them.
• Do not love the world or its riches.
• Carry the cross of Jesus Christ.
2. The rich young man's problem:
• Trusted in his riches to reach the Kingdom of God
• Loved the world and its riches more than God (compare with Abba Antony)
• Forgot that the riches of the world are given to us by God to use them for the glory of His name; we are only entrusted with them (as in the parable of the honest servant and the talents)
• Lost his trust in God and his dependence on Him; "do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink . . ."
• Failed the trial concerning the love of God; the biggest trial that man can go through is when the love of the world stands against his love of God
• It's easy to forsake a sin for the sake of God.
• It's hard to forsake the ones we love for the sake of God (example: Abraham).
3. Was it possible for the rich young man to inherit the Kingdom of God?
• Yes, everything is possible with God.
• If he had walked the way in which Jesus told him and hadn't left sorrowful when he knew his way would not send him to the heavenly Kingdom
• If he had believed in God and His promises: a reward in this world and eternal life (example: Job the righteous)

1. Trusting God in all things
2. We are entrusted with our money to use it according to the will of our Lord.
3. We must not enslave ourselves to anything in this world; this can separate us from the love of God.
