The Pharisee
The Publican
1) Giving thanks to God Trusted in himself that he was righteous; he did not say, "by the grace of God I am what I am"

2) Praying for others

He despised others.

3) Repentance

Denied himself to be a sinner

Came to God confessing his sins

4) Humility

-Proud
-Counted his merits of fasting and tithes
-Considered himself holier that all others

-Humble
-Stood far
-Had a sense of unworthiness 
-He could not lift up his eyes to God but lifted up his heart and beat his breast.

5) Short

Long but does not have the elements of a prayer

He expressed his repentance, humility, and needs in few words.

6) Acceptance by God

Goes away rejected by God

Obtains the remission of his sins

Practice:

This week, learn and use, all day long, the short prayer known as the Jesus Prayer: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
